Our father who art in heaven1. God is the father of those who have come into his family through his son.
2. It is likely that Jesus referred to God as "Abba" or Daddy because of the initimate relationship we are to have with him.
3. To be able to go to God as our heavenly father means the end of fear.
4. If an earthly father will protect and help his children how much more will our heavenly father.
5. Our heavenly father will never leave us or forsake us
6. Our father implies that we pray in mind of what is best for us all.
7. In that God is in heaven we have access to all of his heavenly resources.
8. Since he is our father we should obey him.
Hallowed be thy name1. The many old testament names of God show his character.
2. Jesus Christ is God's greatest name.
3. To hallow God's name is to revere, honor, glorify and obey him as singularly perfect.
4. The Father's name is most hallowed when we conform to his will.
Thy kingdom come1. The desire for God's program to be fulfilled.
2. This is saying we want Christ's rule through God's enthronement to come.
3. The kingdom of God encompasses past, present and future.
4. We are to pray for that future divine earthly kingdom to come.
5. God's kingdom is coming to the earth every time a new soul is brought into his kingdom.
6. His subjects should respond to his rule in their lives.
Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven1. For God's will to become our own.
2. We need to pray in faith and expect prayer to work.
3. We must prayer for God's will to blend with ours.
4. We should pray that every person and thing be brought to God's conformity.
5. God's will of purpose for everything.
6. God's will of desire (not necessarily always fulfilled)
7. God's will of command (only for his children which is obedience)
Give us this day our daily bread1.Every physical thing we have comes from God's provision
2. Rely on the Lord one day at a time
And forgive us our debts as we also forgive our debtors1.Sin is a moral or spiritual debt to God
2. Every crime theft murder sickness pain and sorrow are a derivative of sin.
3. Because man's greatest problem is sin, his greatest need is forgiveness
4. Jesus washed the disciples feet to symbolize the daily surface contamination from sin we experience as we walk through life.
5. We must confess our sins. Have our feet presented to be washed.
6. When we confess our sins we agree with God they are evil.
7.We must forgive if we want to be forgiven.
And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil1. God does not tempt
2. The petition is a plea for God to give us what we don't have.
3. God will not lead you into any situation you will not be able to resist.
4. This also means we submit to his word which is a hedge of protection.
